i, uh, wrote this in late june but never posted it.

buttermilk chicken, based on this, but really just chicken dipped in buttermilk and then dredged in flour with spices. mmm.
grilled cheese with tomatoes.
i bought some red curry mix and rice from the target brand. it was terrible. the sauce was sweet (maybe i should have read how sugar was the first ingredient...) and sort of smelled like soap. inedible. but i made rice in a pot (1.5 cups jasmine rice, 3 cups water, cover and simmer for 15 minutes) for possible the first time in my life.

late on the updates

i bought some asian noodles (what i always think is chow mein, but chow mein is crunchy) and made an odd stirfry. the "soy sauce flavor" included was really nasty and was not used.
i just had a bagel (taken from work) with butter and it was about the best thing i've ever eaten. maybe i was really hungry.
uh, pasta, chips and salsa, parmesan and crackers, and i defrosted some bread. mmm, carbs. oh, and an artichoke. i left the leftover leaves in a bowl instead of throwing them out immediately, and they turned a very bright green-blue color. i've no idea what causes it, but it was very pretty and only mildly disturbing.
currently trying to figure out a dessert to take to an outdoor opera. it'll be something like lemon bars or strawberry-rhubarb bars or key lime pie bars.
answer: key lime pie bars, based on the crust from here (except with girl scout shortbread) and the filling from here. except just lime, not key. they came out a little too sweet for me, so i took the leftovers into into work.

i don't have to cook every week

well, i know i must have eaten something this week, but only because i'm still breathing.
hmm. i made some weird yogurt+chicken thing in the oven with indian spices. it was odd.
i made some scones from the (world-famous) fischer scone mix. there's a reason these things are world famous. i think i bought a lot of my lunches this week. there was a trip to the newly-opened panera, ostensibly for my/coworker's birthday. it was sort of eh ok. although i noticed they had semolina sesame bread, which i miss from the med bakery, so maybe i should try that and be disappointed when it's not like the med's. i went to new york on friday, and had a duck breast salad while watching world cup coverage (also a pilsner urquell, which i was hoping would be like singha, but rather was just ok). finally, a friend made some chicken in marniara sauce, which was surprisingly good.

it's not a birthday without cake

i started obsessing about pizza, so i tried the pizza parlour (pardon, pizza palace) that i can see from my window. the pepperoni pizza was excellent, and much better than the pizza place a block down (vas' pizza).
(this happened on sunday, and the pizza was eaten on sunday and monday. on tuesday, i went to target, and feeling lazy, bought a digiorno pizza which i suspected i didn't especially like when i had it before. this was true, but pizza is pizza. anyway, i'm not proud.)
what did i eat besides pizza? some sort of chicken/brocolli/onion stirfry with schezwuan sauce that came out pretty well.
made this cake for my birthday, which came out very well, although the pan overflowed in the oven. took it to work, and was mostly eaten up. went over to a coworker's house, as she was also celebrating her birthday. her mom made excellent tacos, a better-than-flan dessert (ie, flan for most intents and purposes), and sangria.
